Cricket - Through the Years

It is now history that the first appearance of the Malvern boys as a team in any sport was on the occassion of a cricket match against Queen's Royal College at the Queen's Park Oval. The result and the scores have been lost but the year is remembered - 1941.

What follows are the highlights of the team over the decades:

1942

Malvern entered its first competition, the popular Sunday Afternoon  Competition for the Slazenger Cup. The first match was played on March 1st 1942 on the Queens Park Savannah against St. Clair Athletic "B".

1943

Played in the Narvo Sunday Cricket Competition. Team captained by Ivan Ashtine.

1956

Malvern topped the "B" section of the Northern League, but lost the Finals against the "A" section winners Queen's Park. Carl Mills was the captain.
1957 Malvern was admitted to the new Trinidad Cricket Council Competition, in the Senior (Second) Grade and won the competition in the first year. "Coach" Oxley led the team to victory.

They were promoted to (First) Grade, however they were demoted after their first year.

1959 Malvern is once again crowned Senior Grade Champions and were once again promoted. They were demoted for a second time some time after.
1962 Noel Robinson represents Malvern on the National Cricket Team. He was selected to play against India and was bowled for duck in the first innings but scored a brilliant 80 in the second.
1966 Malvern won the North Title of the Senior Grade but lost to Oxford in the final.

Frank Ragoonath was selected as one of the Five Cricketers of the Year.

1973 A Club decision taken to stop playing cricket competitively.
